May Is Lyme Disease Awareness Month: Health Department Urges Precaution & Prevention

Bel Air, MD – Spring has returned to Harford County and with that comes a reminder about the risk of Lyme disease, the most common vector borne disease in the United States. With this in mind, the Harford County Health Department wants Harford County residents to be “tick aware”, even in areas they may not consider themselves to be at risk. This means being more attentive from springtime through fall, when gardening, doing yard work or while recreating near wooded and grassy areas. Read more...

Meet Our New Environmental Center Director

Dr. John Leader recently joined the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum as Director of its Environmental Center.

Dr. Leader grew up on the waters, marshes and forests around Perch Creek in Cecil County. He earned his undergraduate degree in Secondary Science Education from the University of Maryland. He studied at Oregon State University and then the University of Florida for a PhD in wetland biogeo-chemistry. Read more...

DPW Kicks-Off Business Recycling & Waste Reduction Awards Program

DPW Receives Recycling Grant & Expands Recyclables

(Bel Air, MD) - - The Harford County Department of Public Works, Division of Environmental Services is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $33,200 grant awarded by the Maryland Department of the Environment for electronic waste recycling.  The grant supports the high cost of recycling Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions and computer monitors.  These items are difficult and costly to recycle due to the lead applied to the glass picture tubes.
