Jen Swanson Named Executive Director of The Humane Society of Harford County

Harford Community College to Launch Nursing Initiative

Harford Community College, in collaboration with Cecil College, will launch the Cecil-Harford Academic Progression in Nursing Initiative. This innovative effort aims to assist associate degree nursing students in their efforts to find the best program as they work to advance and complete BSN and MSN programs in a timely manner. Harford Community College was awarded a $545,675 grant to fund the program from the Nurse Support Program II administered by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Read more...

Shark Tank Harford County a Great Success

Over 120 people filled the Chesapeake Theater at Harford Community College to watch local entrepreneurs take the stage at Shark Tank Harford County! Presented by America’s Small Business Development Center recently.

Seven Harford County residents grabbed the spotlight as they pitched their business plans to local industry leaders. The reward was a cash prize to help fund the entrepreneur’s venture. The winner was Randy Douglas (pictured), an inventor from Aberdeen, with his company Douglas Future Technologies. Read more...

Harford Community College’s Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Program has been redesignated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.  The new designation covers academic years 2014-2020. Harford Leadership Academy Graduates Its 25th Class of Business Leaders

In its 25th year, the Harford Leadership Academy is a community development program, co-sponsored by Harford Community College and the Harford County Chamber of Commerce. The Academy is designed to promote the development of existing and emerging leaders and to create a committed, involved, and diverse network of leaders in Harford County. Community Foundation of Harford County Announces $1 Million in Assets Under Management

Bel Air, MD -- Community Foundation of Harford County announced that it has $1 million in assets under management. The foundation was established in 2007 and received its first donation--$100,000--in 2008 to establish the William A. Humbert Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides a yearly $5,000 scholarship to an advanced instrumental music student from Harford County. Read more...

Harford County Bar Foundation Raises $9,000 at Kentucky Derby Party Fundraiser

Bel Air, MD – Harford County Bar Foundation raised $9,000 at its first “Run for the Roses: A Kentucky Derby Party” held at MaGerk’s Pub & Grill in Bel Air. One hundred twenty guests enjoyed the Kentucky Derby festivities that included Appalachian bluegrass band Jake & the Burtones, games of chance, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, mint juleps and watching the Kentucky Derby won by American Pharoah. Board of Education of Harford County Reaches Agreement with HCEA

Since August of 2014, Superintendent of Schools Barbara P. Canavan and her staff have been working closely with the Board of Education of Harford County (the Board) and the school community to identify cost saving measures and reductions in order to implement salary improvements. Along with the $3.1 million dollars in funding proposed by the County Executive, the Superintendent and her staff identified $7.0 million in additional cuts to the FY16 proposed budget. These combined efforts resulted in the opportunity to offer a proposed compensation package for all employees.  Read more...

Local Businesses Step Up to Support Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®

[Bel Air, MD] — The local business community has really “stepped up” to support SARC’s 7th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® fundraiser, taking place on Saturday, April 25 in downtown Bel Air. The event challenges men to walk a mile in high heels to benefit SARC, the Harford County organization that helps area victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse and stalking.
