Ten years ago, Marion, a single mother of two, was struggling to make ends meet. She was making less than $20,000 a year and, as much as she desired to own her own home, she did not see a way to make it work. May Is Lyme Disease Awareness Month: Health Department Urges Precaution & Prevention

Bel Air, MD – Spring has returned to Harford County and with that comes a reminder about the risk of Lyme disease, the most common vector borne disease in the United States. With this in mind, the Harford County Health Department wants Harford County residents to be “tick aware”, even in areas they may not consider themselves to be at risk. This means being more attentive from springtime through fall, when gardening, doing yard work or while recreating near wooded and grassy areas. Read more...

Mother's Day Festival of Flowers at Bel Air United Methodist Church

The location of the Aberdeen Boys & Girls Club site is considered a food desert, with access to just a corner store and a few fast food restaurants options that offer high-calorie nutrient poor choices and lack affordable healthy options. The Seeds of Change Grant will help us provide the community with an opportunity to access healthy and affordable foods, which is an important way for our community, to achieve positive health outcomes. Read more...

The Harford County Real Estate Market Shows Improvement

The local real estate market continues to show signs of improvement.  Statists from MRIS® multiple listing services, the Maryland Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® show Harford County outperforming our neighboring counties. 
 
October homes sold in Harford County increased 15% from 218 homes to 251 homes compared to the same month last year.  Baltimore County was up 14% and Cecil County sales remained the same.  Maryland showed a 9% increase. Read more...

DPW Receives Recycling Grant & Expands Recyclables

(Bel Air, MD) - - The Harford County Department of Public Works, Division of Environmental Services is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $33,200 grant awarded by the Maryland Department of the Environment for electronic waste recycling.  The grant supports the high cost of recycling Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions and computer monitors.  These items are difficult and costly to recycle due to the lead applied to the glass picture tubes. September is National Preparedness Month

DILP Adopts the 2014 National Electric Code

(Bel Air, MD) - - The Harford County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits (DILP) has adopted the 2014 National Electric Code with local amendments.  The changes were detailed in Harford County Council Bill 14-5 as Amended.   
 
It was approved by the County Council in April.  The law takes effect June 10, 2014. It will be the code used for all electrical installations in Harford County made on or after this date. Read more...

[Baldwin, Maryland] – Michael Whitacre, owner of Carl’s Door Service, Inc., recently earned his Master Technician Certification, the highest level of professional certification available in the door and access systems industry, from the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA). Carl’s Door Service, Inc. is a family-owned, Harford County-based professional dealer of overhead garage doors, electric operators and entry doors that has served the region since 1965. Thousands of Pounds of Clutter Recycled and Reused at Annual Clear Your Clutter Day

[Bel Air, Maryland] – Hundreds of Harford County-area residents unloaded pounds of clutter recently at the fourth annual Clear Your Clutter Day hosted by Sappari Solutions Professional Organizing and Harford Community College (HCC). Nearly 500 vehicles full of unwanted items were unloaded by volunteers from the many participating organizations responsible for repurposing or recycling the discarded items. Read more...
