Over the past two
years, the Bel Air Planning and Public Works staff, and classes from Bel Air
High School, C. Milton Wright High School, Harford Technical High School,
Harford Community College have teamed up to rehabilitate the horticultural
gardens at Rockfield Park in Bel Air.
This year, North Harford High School and Fallston High School joined the
effort.
The gardens are
designed to exhibit various ecosystems and plant types including a Grass Garden,
Shade Garden, Evergreen Garden, Xeriscape Garden, Edible Garden and a
Hummingbird and Butterfly Garden. Environmental and Landscape classes partnered
with local retailers and contractors. Akehurst, Ivy Hill, Kollar Environmental,
The Mill of Bel Air, ER&M and Buddy Boy Landscape
provided installation knowledge and supplies to research, design, install and
maintain a specific garden.
